When you get home Follow instructions below:

  • While no color treatment is completely permanent, there are things you can do to dramatically decrease the fading of your color. DO NOT wash your hair immediately after color. We recommend to wait 72 hours before shampooing your hair. While the cuticle layer is still open, washing your hair early can lead to color fading. It usually takes 3 days for the cuticle to fully close. So the longer you wait to wash it the longer your color will last.

  • Use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. Sulfates and Parabens are cleansing agents that can be too aggressive on colored hair and can cause the color to fade faster than normal. Your stylist will have you take a quick questionnaire to customize the most suitable products for you.

  • Avoid hard water. One of the main reasons that color can look dull or lackluster is due to a buildup of hard water that can make your hair resistant to holding onto color molecules. Instead of rinsing your hair every day, try using a shower cap or buying a filter for your shower head to avoid the unnecessary buildup. We recommend High Pressure Revitalizing filtered shower head-15-stage filter from Amazon.

  • Deep conditioning your hair to restore your hair’s moisture. This can be in the form of a leave-in conditioner, a traditional deep conditioner to be used in the shower, or a hair mask. These products add much-needed nutrients to your hair and help to quench your thirsty tresses. Make sure to use a treatment like this weekly, or as needed. If your scalp tends to be on the oily side, focus the product on your ends — this is most likely where your hair needs moisture the most.

  • Do not wash your hair with high temperature water. Heat can cause your cuticle to swell and open causing the color molecules in your hair to rinse off and down the drain. This is especially true for those who dye their hair red, purple, lavender, copper as those dyes tend to have larger molecules than others. To avoid washing frequently, use DRY shampoo in between washes.

  • Never sleep with your hair wet. Let your hair air dry by switching up your hair styling routine by skipping the blow dryer and letting your strands dry naturally. By avoiding excess heat, you lose the risk of opening up those cuticles and allowing those color molecules to fade. Invest in a silk pillow case, sleep with your hair braided not in a bun.

  • If blow drying is necessary make sure to blow dry your hair correctly. Always prep your hair with a good detangling spray, serum or oil. Use heat protectant to add a protective layer to your hair. Heat protectant helps prevent damage and work as double duty as a styling product. .

  • Set your blow dryer to the lowest heat setting and be sure to keep the dryer a few inches away from your hair as you dry. This easy method will help to minimize the effects of the heat, while still allowing you to dry and style your strands. If you don’t know how to blow dry your hair on your own by using a regular blow dryer, we recommend the BLOW DRY BRUSH. Some of our favorites are DRY BAR Blow Dry Brush and Babyliss PRO Rapido Dryer.

  • Avoid Salt water or chlorine. Chlorine is a chemical bleaching agent that cleans pools and will definitely strip color from your hair when enjoying a sunny pool day. Blonde hair is susceptible to turning a greenish tint, while darker shades may become dull, dry out, and lose its shine. So, if you find yourself wanting to go to the pool, try a swimmer’s cap! Or, try getting your hair wet in the shower, use conditioner, and then don’t rinse it out. This will create a barrier on the hair shaft so that the chlorine won’t penetrate.

  • Keep up with your salon visits and make sure to book toners and color touch up services ahead of time. These services are needed every 4-6 weeks to extend the life of your color. Consider trimming every 6-8 weeks, dead ends won’t hold color and will fade even faster. Make sure you are cutting off those dead ends so your color looks fresh from root to tips.

  • If you neglect your hair after stepping out of the salon, you may be in for some trouble. But if you invest in the right products and make an effort to restore your hair’s health, you’ll end up with even healthier hair than what you started with. Above all, keep your hair hydrated, listen to the signs it gives you, and your stylists advice of course 😉.

Hair Extensions maintenance guide for clients

* The consultation does not require the client to purchase hair extensions, it simply provides the opportunity to get questions answered from a true expert. *

When you leave Our Salon:

  • FIRST take a selfie and post it on IG, FB, Twitter, Snapchat etc... ☺️

  • SECOND tag your stylist @________________________

  • THIRD leave us a review & tell us about your experience.

When you get home Follow instructions below:

  • DO NOT wash hair for 48-72 hrs after application.

  • DO NOT color treat the hair extensions at home or use purple/colored shampoos.

  • DO NOT use a blow out treatment on any blonde hair extensions.

  • DO NOT use regular paddle brushes or round brushes. Ask your stylist what brush is best to use for the type of hair extensions used. We recommend you brush your extensions gently at least twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening to keep your hair extensions clean and tangle free.

  • DO NOT pull or tug on the beads, keratin bonds, tapes, and weft hair extensions. Pulling and tugging your extensions/hair will cause damage to the natural hair and may irritate the scalp. Don't attempt to maintain or adjust your hair extensions yourself. Any issues leave it to the professionals.

  • MAKE SURE you are always gentle with your extensions and that you brush them properly as this can also affect their lifespan. Matting and tangling is a normal occurrence with your natural hair, as with all types of hair extensions. This can happen due to a lack of constant brushing, weather, or dryness. A common reason why extensions tangle and get matted throughout the day is due to a combination of sweat, heat, and friction. Keep in mind when human hair is constantly moving around it will have tendency to become matted or ‘clump’ together in pieces and should be brushed consistently to avoid this. During the day, we generate heat in the back area of our nape and scalp, and often times we sweat back there too. Your sweat is salty and acidic which can dry out your hair extensions. When you add hair volume to this combination and constantly move your head throughout the day, tangling and matting will occur.

  • DO NOT brush your hair extensions aggressively, there are some simple ways to ensure that your extensions remain smooth and tangle-free. First, be sure to brush the extensions periodically throughout the day with the recommended brush your stylist recommends. Alternatively, you can also use a wide-tooth comb or a soft bristle brush. Always have a brush on hand so you can give your hair a quick brushing. If it’s a particularly windy day, you can tie your hair up.

  • Brush your hair extensions before shampooing your hair to ensure its tangle free.

  • DO NOT wash your hair everyday. Remember, the more you wash and heat style your extensions, the shorter their lifespan will be, so try to keep washing and using products, recommended by your stylist, on your extensions to a minimum. (1 to 2 times a week)

  • DO NOT use sulfate or silicone based shampoos and conditioners. Heavy oils and silicones can often have the opposite effect and coat the hair to the point that it becomes dull, dry and tangled. Use gentle products that will not dry out the hair. We highly recommend applying a moisturizing sulfate-free and alcohol-free conditioner before and after shampooing. When washing, make sure to handle the extensions gently and to not rub them vigorously. Always be sure to rinse the extensions in cold water at the end of your hair-wash to lock in moisture. After you are finished, carefully squeeze any excess water from the extensions and make sure that you never rub your extensions dry with a towel.

  • When shampooing your hair work vertically not horizontally or in a circular motion, this will create less tangles and easier to manage.

  • DO NOT spray “heat protectants” on dry hair followed by a hot iron on the damp hair. Heat protectant must be added after hair is towel dried. Add heat protectant from mid to end and style as desired. Allow the hair to AIR DRY before applying any heat. While our own hair may be able to handle a high heat setting, our hair is also constantly getting revitalized from the scalp, whereas hair extensions don't receive the same amount of nutrients or oil in order to look silky and shiny.

  • DO NOT apply flat iron/curling iron heat to WET hair.

  • DO NOT sleep with your hair wet or tied in a bun. This will cause damage to your natural hair and the extensions. Invest in a SILK pillow case. Traditional cotton pillowcases can create friction and disrupt hair cuticles as we move, making your hair frizzy and the treatment short-lived. By sleeping on a silky pillowcase, you’ll avoid roughing the hair strands when you toss and turn at night. We recommend sleeping with your hair braided.

  • DO NOT apply heavy oil and hair masks on the hair extensions (no conditioner or oils near scalp area where the beads or thread is located) apply the recommended hair conditioner by your stylist from mid to end only. Using too much products or the wrong ones can cause the tape, beads, and keratin bonds to loosen or slip off.

  • DO NOT swim in chlorine or salted water with your hair extensions no matter the methods used (Tape ins, beaded, I-tip, K-tip, and volume wefts). Be wary of exposing your hair to high levels of chlorine or salt water, and always cover your hair during intervals of high UV levels, as these factors will reduce the lifespan of the hair and cause severe dry damage. We recommend wearing a swimming cap.

  • Some slippage is common. If you are losing more than 10% of your extensions, and you purchased the hair from Millie & Maz Co. please email us your full name, phone number, date of service and pictures to set up a consultation for immediate repair.

  • Swimming is not recommended if wearing tape hair extensions.

  • Don't allow bronzers/spray tans/sun creams or products with tint in them to make contact with your hair extensions if blonde especially if in the sun as you may experience slight color change.

  • DO NOT back brush your extensions, this will cause damage and matting.

  • When you get a new set of extensions, especially your first set, it is normal to feel an itching sensation on your scalp. Often it’s just your scalp getting used to the new extensions and sometimes it could be because you need to give them a wash. If itching persists, email us your full name, phone number, date of service and pictures for consultation with your hair technician, however this is usually normal!

  • Use ONLY the products that your stylist at Millie & Maz Co. recommends. If you’re using dry shampoo or hairspray, do not leave in hair for more than a day. If you don’t wash the product build up, it can cause tangling and matting.

  • When breaking apart the bond, removing the tapes or adjusting the beads, you will notice that hair is coming loose. This is hair that has fallen out but was still attached to the extensions, do not worry this process is normal and natural. As a result of natural shedding (approx. 50–100 strands per day) it is not unusual to shed anywhere from 0–15 strands over the course of the term of wear.

  • When arranging your appointment to reuse your hair we advise booking another consultation so the stylist can review and assess your hair extensions to see if any new hair is required or any adjustments you would like to make.

  • Remember, hair extensions require maintenance. The better you take care of your hair, the longer they will last. Every hair type can wear extensions; it’s just about finding the right extensions for you. Anyone dealing with alopecia or especially fine/thinning hair should be cautious. If you suffer from alopecia or thinning hair, be sure to consult with a medical professional prior to your consultation and assure you have proper medical documentation the day of your consultation.

shampoo. Towel dry then apply GK deep conditioning

Mask. Comb to distribute throughout the hair, leave in for 45 min. Rinse

with WATER ONLY. When ready to wash hair next time you can use GK

shampoo and conditioner recommended by your stylist.

*Note: Ask your stylist if you should do these steps and if hair is previously blonde and damaged. The only possible damage could be from a stylist who applied too much heat or if a client continues putting too much heat. Our stylists at Millie & Maz Co. are properly trained and certified to stay well within the recommended heat range.

  • DO NOT work out, sweat or get hair wet for the first 3 days. If your hair gets wet, use blow dryer to straighten as soon as possible to keep it dry.

  • Keep your hair down for the first 3 days, this allows your hair to blend perfectly with the keratin or Brazilian treatment. Do not sleep with your hair tied

  • DO NOT use pins, hair bands, hair clips, hats, or sunglasses for first 3 days as it leaves dents in your hair even after treatment.

  • Invest in a SILK pillow. Traditional cotton pillowcases can create friction and disrupt hair cuticles as we move, making your hair frizzy and the treatment short-lived. By sleeping on a silky pillow, you’ll avoid roughing the hair strands when you toss and turn at night. Silk creates very little irritation, which means a longer-lasting Keratin & Brazilian straightening treatment.

  • DO NOT use 450-degree iron or curling iron after treatment. Use heat protectant recommended by your stylist before blow drying, flat ironing or curling. This treatment will cut your styling time in half.

  • DO NOT color your hair after treatment. Your stylist will most likely color your hair before treatment (full color or highlights) or 3-4 weeks after treatment (color only). We do not recommend highlighting or using bleach after treatment. Bleach will strip out the treatment.

  • DO NOT wash your hair everyday, washing your hair too often will reduce the life span of your Keratin and Brazilian treatment.

  • Be wary of exposing your hair to high levels of chlorine or salt water, and always cover your hair during intervals of high UV levels, as these factors will reduce the lifespan of the treatment. The salt from the ocean and chlorine from swimming pools can strip away your Brazilian or Keratin treatments, leaving your hair rough and frizzy. We recommend that you wear a cap, if you choose not to, then take a shower before you go swimming, soak your hair, and comb in conditioner. The water will help fill your porous strands to avoid chemical absorption, while the conditioner will add a level of protection.

  • Don’t be fooled by the sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner craze, this washes your Brazilian blowout down the drain! Instead, use the one that’s specifically formulated to work with your treatment and not against it. Guarantee the longest-lasting, smoothest, shiniest results with our four-core aftercare items: maximum longevity, purchase a shampoo that is specially developed for Keratin and Brazilian aftercare. The shampoo will complement the Keratin or Brazilian straightening treatment and the results will last longer.

  • Brazilian or Keratin treatments DO NOT thin out your hair. Clients often mistaken their hair being fuller due to the hair texture and frizziness. In reality, the treatment coats the hair strand resulting in shinier, silkier and more manageable hair.

  • Products that are recommended to maintain your treatments:
